‘The Bill Lade Yacka Railway Fettlers Cottages’

The Blyth Gladstone railway, 3’6” gauge (1067mm), opened in June 1894, including a Yacka railway station, with cottages.

After closure of the line Bill Lade approached the South Australian Railways requesting the remaining cottages not be demolished, but instead be leased to SAFFA.

The State Minister of Transport agreed to the conditions and SAFFA became the lessee from 13 February 1978.

SAFFA completed the freehold purchase transaction of the site on the 12 December 1983.

The cottages have been renovated and continually updated to provide traditional, but comfortable Australian accommodation to members and their guests who fish the Broughton River.

The land around the cottages has been carefully revegetated with native flora and offers a haven for wildlife.

SAFFA hold a monthly social gathering at the cottages.
